2. How long have you struggled with your weight? Give details such as other programs you have tried, emotional struggles you have had, and social struggles also apply. Tell us your story.

I have struggled with my weight my entire life. As a child I was always chubby and was made fun of quite of bit, which paved the way for low self-esteem and anxiety issues. I’m almost 28 years old and I’ve never felt sexy. I’ve never felt pretty. But most of all I am getting older and having this much excess weight is becoming a health concern. I don’t want to develop diabetes or heart disease. I don’t want to take blood pressure medication or pills for high cholesterol. I want to be healthy. I want to feel healthy. Right now I cannot even sit in the floor with nieces and nephews to play because my legs fall asleep within seconds and it is so hard to get up. I can’t walk up a flight of stairs without being out of breath. Previously I’ve tried vegetarian diets, Adkins diet and a smoothie diet as well as weight watchers. I’ve also tried a lot of exercise along with these diets. I am 4′9” and the lightest I have ever been was 140 when I was in the 11th grade and this is because I ate very few calories and I only ate every other day. I was also running 3-5 miles a day for 4-6 days for cross-country and softball. I have had medical test completed that indicate I do not have a thyroid problem or any other weight-related health issues that might prevent me from losing weight. I believe what I need is to learn how to eat right for my body and how to exercise right so I’ll lose the maximum amount of weight in the healthiest way.

3. Why is it so important for you to lose weight? Please add any medical conditions here if applicable. Also use as much detail as possible. This question, above all others will tells us why you are applying and what has propelled you apply for this transformation contest. Only add information here that wasn’t explained above.

It’s important for me to lose weight because I am almost in my thirties, when most weight-related health issues begin for people. I don’t want to have diabetes or heart disease. I’ve lived my life making all the wrong choices, but I need to be shown the right choices for my body and how to be able to stick to it.

4. There are so many people struggling with how they feel about themselves due to their weight. How will you reach out to them and lend a helping hand once you have achieved success?

5. What are you willing to do in order to succeed?

exercise excessively and eat what I’m told to.

I have thought about this often. I imagine myself losing a lot of weight and being able to see the beauty on the outside finally and in seeing that be able to gain confidence to be in the world and be an example that with the right choices and the right amount of exercise anyone can lose weight. It would make me feel even better to be able to say, “I did it, you can too.” Not only that but I can see myself being someone’s cheerleader and support. I think in losing a lot of weight I’d become a great support person for others, especially on those days when someone just wants to give up.

6. What are you not willing to do?

Jeopardize my job or relationships.

7. How will you celebrate your results?

Shopping! Another big reason I want to lose weight is that I see all these cute clothes that I want so desperately to wear, but I am too big for. I’ve always been too big for the cute clothes. I see cute dresses but I can’t wear them because they don’t come in my size and even if they did my legs are so fat it wouldn’t look good on me. And we’ll not talk about skinny jeans…that’s just too depressing.

8. You will experience one or more times during your transformation that would be much easier if you quit. How can we be sure that you will not quit? By trying to assure us you will not quit is not a good enough answer here :)

If I have people who I know are counting on me and encouraging me, then I feel obligated to continue. If I feel obligated, I’m not going to quit. In addition, all anyone would have to do to rejuvenate me would be to remind me about all those cute clothes I’ll be able to wear.

9. Is there anything else we should know that will help us determine if you would be a great choice to participate in this transformation contest?

I’ve been fat all my life. I don’t know what it’s like to be thin. I want to be able to experience thin. I want to experience healthy, confidence and pride in how I look.

2. How long have you struggled with your weight? Give details such as other programs you have tried, emotional struggles you have had, and social struggles also apply. Tell us your story.

I have struggled with my weight since 4th grade. I remember my gym teacher in elementary school measured our weight infront of our whole class and shouted out our weights for all to hear. Turned out I was about 10 lbs heavier than all of the other girls in my class. This same gym teacher told me that I was probably heavy because I was born so close to lunch time….cruel I know! This is when I noticed that my body was different than the other girls in my class. My father and mother were overweight and constantly doing random diets. Life was tough being heavy throughout elementary, middle school and highschool. I was the girl wearing stretchy pants because I couldn’t find clothes that fit in middle school. I have many not so fond memories being called “fatty” and various other names by kids at school and family members. No one ever stopped me from eating or mentioned losing weight. My mother was always on a diet. I remember her Richard Simmons phase, slim fast, diet drugs etc., but changing eating habits was never a topic for the kids in the house. I was active in a few sports in highschool, but was always the biggest girl on the team. I always made jokes about being a heavy cheerleader. “someone needs to be the base of the stunts” Being sarcastic is part of who I am and it always made difficult times easier if you joked about them. Hating how I looked and knowing that everyone knew I was heavy made high school hard. When I left home for college I was at my heaviest. Being heavy made starting college stressfull. It was like starting highschool all over again. I was not a very outgoing person because of my weight. After a rocky transition period and my new found freedom from the life I left at home, I began to make better choices about the food I ate. Maybe it was anxiety or the fact that I had to walk everywhere in the city, but Iost a little weight and started to feel better about myself. Next came the stress of a family illness a horrible roommate sitation and my weight went up and down again. I decided to move away to Colorado to make a fresh start with life and school. While I was there I joined Weight Watchers, became a Vegetarian, tried herbal cleanses, commuted by bike, hiked, walked, attempted jogging, did the non-dairy, no refined sugar, no white flour thing, tried the master cleanse. My weight went up and down while I was out west. I did ok when I was on my own but as soon as I went home to visit it was back to the same old over eating patterns. After college I moved to VT and I was in the best shape I could remember.I had done a long cleanse and was counting points and filling my free time with exercise. BUT after I arrived here winter set in and my weight climbed. I became pregnant in 2004 and I remain at the weight I was when I was 8 months pregnant. I joined a little gym in Glover for a few months, did about 8 days of the low carb thing, but then I couldn’t afford to go anymore. I have joined Weight Watchers up here a few times, lost 10-15 pounds and didn’t stick with it for different reasons. I am tired of being heavy. I have an arsenal of work out tapes that I have watched and workout gear that I don’t use either. Like most girls that struggle with their weight I know what I need to do to get healthy but I can’t seem to put all the tools together in a way that makes sense to make a change that works for me and my family.

3. Why is it so important for you to lose weight? Please add any medical conditions here if applicable. Also use as much detail as possible. This question, above all others will tells us why you are applying and what has propelled you apply for this transformation contest. Only add information here that wasn’t explained above.

I need to lose weight because I know that it will cause problems down the line for me if I don’t. My family has a history of heart disease and cancer and I don’t want to be the next one to get sick. I want to lose weight to show my son the right way to live life. I want to lose weight so that I can be active again. I want to break the cycle and help my siblings and friends who also struggle with their weight. I have heard great things about Ben’s Boot Camp but finances have kept me from joining anymore programs. At least that is what I keep telling myself. I mentioned this contest to my family and my son said “Do it Mom”…I really don’t ever put myself first and feel like now is the time to start. I feel like if I can make this change, it will be something that will help more than just me. It is time for me to stop complaining and start doing something about it.

4. There are so many people struggling with how they feel about themselves due to their weight. How will you reach out to them and lend a helping hand once you have achieved success?

I will share whatever tools I gain with everyone that want to make a change in their life. I am not afraid to talk about my weight problem with people. I understand the struggle. If I succeed I would love to help others succeed too.

5.What are you willing to do in order to succeed?

Get up early, get moving, change my eating habits, accept help, make a commitment, sweat, cry……whatever it takes.

6. What are you not willing to do?

Take diet drugs, eat artficial sweetners, miss work and miss out on my sons achievements …that is about all I can think of at the moment.

7. How will you celebrate your results?

I will celebrate my results with my family….hiking, biking, swimming, running, all while wearing new clothing of course and huge smile on my face.

8. You will experience one or more times during your transformation that would be much easier if you quit. How can we be sure that you will not quit? By trying to assure us you will not quit is not a good enough answer here :)

If I commit to this I will have my son’s face to look at everyday as motivation…..I can’t quit as long as he is watching!!! I will also make sure my family and friends are there to support me and remind me that quitting isn’t an option.

9. Is there anything else we should know that will help us determine if you would be a great choice to participate in this transformation contest?

I am an honest person…I will provide a lot of comic relief and support to others in the competition. I just want this chance to prove to myself that I can change!

2. How long have you struggled with your weight? Give details such as other programs you have tried, emotional struggles you have had, and social struggles also apply. Tell us your story.

I started struggling with my weight almost six years ago. My mother was diagnosed with lung cancer in March 2006. I buried my feelings with food. The more upset I got the more I ate. My mother passed away 4 1/2 years ago. I continued to eat..a lot. I have always used food as an emotional crutch. It wasn’t until July 30, 2011 that I actually opened my eyes and saw exactly what I was doing to myself. My stepdaughter went to a weight loss camp for girls for five weeks. On the last day of camp the parents were invited to a learning seminar to learn what they had been teaching the girls during their stay. I was shocked to learn how I had let my body get into a state of such disaster. Everything I had been doing for the past six years was so wrong. It was time that I change. My stepdaughter lost twenty five pounds in five weeks because she was eating properly and exercising more than she had in her life. I’ve learned so much from this young lady and I want to be like her with this accomplishment. I felt that I had let her down for six years and it was up to me to change that. I have tried many programs over the years to get my weight down (Weight Watchers, Atkins, South Beach Diet) but none worked because I didn’t want to face reality and see that I was slowly killing myself. I knew right then that if I didn’t change my attitude and start treating my body better that I would only get sicker and not live the life that I wanted to live. Since then I have lost 35 pounds but have a long way to go to be healthy. I know that I can do it but I do need help getting there.

3. Why is it so important for you to lose weight? Please add any medical conditions here if applicable. Also use as much detail as possible. This question, above all others will tells us why you are applying and what has propelled you apply for this transformation contest. Only add information here that wasn’t explained above.

I have been on blood pressure medicine for almost six years. I have never had any problems with blood pressure in the past. Last summer my doctor ran blood tests and I was told that I was borderline diabetic. I know that my weight is the cause of these issues. If I don’t lose the weight they will only get worse and I will be on even more medications. I do not want to have to take medicine everyday so that I feel “normal”. I want to solve the problem, not put a band aid over it to hide it. Getting healthy is the only way to accomplish this.

4. There are so many people struggling with how they feel about themselves due to their weight. How will you reach out to them and lend a helping hand once you have achieved success?

I believe that if I can do it then anyone can. I would be happy to help anyone achieve their goals. Like me many people are too proud to ask for help. I would like to be able to help others who, like me, are shy and afraid to go to a bootcamp class by themselves due to embarrassment. I would like to show other women and girls that anything is possible if you set your mind to it. I would like to help others by being there for them to go to classes with or just to talk to when they need the support.

5. What are you willing to do in order to succeed?

I am willing to do anything to succeed. I have hidden my head in the sand for far too long. It’s time to pull it out and do what needs to be done. No more hiding, only fighting for my goals from now on.

6. What are you not willing to do?

I’m not willing to do anything that is unhealthy for my body. I’ve tried too many fad diets and gotten nowhere. I want to do it right this time!

7. How will you celebrate your results?

I will celebrate by showing others that you can succeed and once you put your mind to it and are willing to work through blood, sweat and tears that anything is possible. I feel that telling others my story will help them realize they can do it too and they can also succeed.

8. You will experience one or more times during your transformation that would be much easier if you quit. How can we be sure that you will not quit? By trying to assure us you will not quit is not a good enough answer here :)

If I do not get healthy and reach my goals I feel that I will also die at a young age, just like my mother did. I do not want to leave my family that early. I will not do that. I watched how hard it was for her to do at such a young age and I will learn from her. Quitting is not an option in life anymore.

9. Is there anything else we should know that will help us determine if you would be a great choice to participate in this transformation contest?

I want to do this for myself and for my family. I believe we all deserve to live life to its fullest. I haven’t been doing that for the past six years and that’s not acceptable. I’ve cheated myself and my family out of a lot of things that we should be doing because of my denial. I won’t do that anymore. It’s not fair to them or me. Once my mind is set on something I don’t stop until it’s done. This program would help me reach my goals and be able to live my life the way it should be lived.

2. How long have you struggled with your weight? Give details such as other programs you have tried, emotional struggles you have had, and social struggles also apply. Tell us your story.

I have struggled with my weight basically my whole life. I never really thought i was big until about 6th grade when my doctor straight up told me i was fat and handed me a membership to IROC. I lived in glover and wasnt old enough for a licence so i couldnt get up there for the required 3 days a week to keep the membership. I tried numberous diets and sports but nothing i did seemed to work. I learned to love myself for who i was, that is up until my freshman year of highschool when my father suddenly passed away. I gained 100 lbs in a matter of months, and thats when i was given the nickname Mrs. Piggy all throughout highschool. My family members would constantly point out all my “problem areas” at all out family functions. Still i continued to diet and even worked out in our garage with the little equipment we had. But i just didnt, and still dont know the skills to a healthier lifestyle. My Jr. year of highschool i got a boyfriend who was constantly calling me a fatass. After 4 years of being in that relationship he left me and his reasoning was i had just gained too much weight and i am fat. I am 5′5 and had weighed an alarming 250 lbs. I then found out i was pregnant by him finally i had a reason to be fat! I am so out of shape i cannot even walk up our 1 flight of stairs carrying a baby seat without huffing and puffing for a few min afterwords. Granted i have lost weight since my daughter was born but i am gaining it right back as fast as i lost it. I dont have the resources or skills to lose the rest of the weight i need to lose or to keep it off.

3. Why is it so important for you to lose weight? Please add any medical conditions here if applicable. Also use as much detail as possible. This question, above all others will tells us why you are applying and what has propelled you apply for this transformation contest. Only add information here that wasn’t explained above.

Its really important for me to lose weight because im afraid for my health. Almost my whole family has diabetes, my grandma died of it 2 years ago, and im at a high risk for it. I also want to be healthy for my daughter, i want her to be raised in a healthy environment so she dont have to go through the critisism i did, and i want to be able to run around and play with my daughter. Also i finally met the man of my dreams who loves me for who i am not what i look like but christmas this year he proposed. Every girl dreams of her wedding day and I dont want to get married until i can be happy with myself and look like a princess in my wedding dress. I dont want the dress to fit me i want to fit the dress. I dont want to jiggle walking down the isle (lol). For once i want to look in the mirror and smile at what i see.

4. There are so many people struggling with how they feel about themselves due to their weight. How will you reach out to them and lend a helping hand once you have achieved success?

I will share my success story with everyone and share what i have learned and did to be a healthier person, and help the people struggling however i can until they are happy with themselfs also.

5. What are you willing to do in order to succeed?

The sky is the limit, Its never too late to reach for the stars and i truly believe that. I will do anything in order for me to succeed, i want this so bad i can almost taste it!

6. What are you not willing to do?

I know there will be times i feel like quitting or “cheating” but i am not willing to let myself do that. Im not going to set myself up to fail.

7. How will you celebrate your results?

I have never looked at or tried wedding dresses even though i dream about it all the time, especailly now im engaged, so i will do that.

8. You will experience one or more times during your transformation that would be much easier if you quit. How can we be sure that you will not quit? By trying to assure us you will not quit is not a good enough answer here :)

Because im not only doing this for myself and my health im doing it for my daughter and there is nothing i wouldnt do in this world for her and to make her proud of me and look up to me as she grows up.

9. Is there anything else we should know that will help us determine if you would be a great choice to participate in this transformation contest?

I not only want to make my daughter proud but my dad too. He was always trying to get us to go hiking and be more active and i just feel like i failed him being as big and unhealthy as i am now.

I have struggled with my weight my entire life. It was about the second grade when I realized that I was different and larger than the other girls in my class. I grew up with a nickname that haunted me until my teenage years, “porky”. I can remeber repeateding asking people to stop calling me porky because it was embarrassing in front of my friends. Some people would call me pork for short. It was humilating and degrading I don’t believe that anybody knew how much it had affected me to be a “joke”. Emotionally I have just never liked my body, so I have never truely liked myself as I am. I have been able to loose weight twice that I thought I would never go back to my old eating habits and again I slide right back into it. I need a program thats exercise and the nutrition aspect that I can change my lifestyle not just a diet or a short term fix, I need to change my life. I have tried many different diets, pills, shakes and exercise programs for an easy quick fix, an easy fix that I will never find.

I joined the military right out of high school; I was always in great shape, always athletic. While training in Turkey in 1993, I suffered an injury to my knee causing me to gain 65 pounds in about 5 months and have gone downhill since. I have tried the Atkins diet, calorie counting, various diet pills and Sensa, each with some merit. The emotional struggle of going from physically fit to obese, not being able to continue in my military career, to do the things I had always loved doing, the emotional distress of seeing myself in the mirror everyday causing bouts of depression. As for social struggles, the social misconception that “fat = lazy” has been the toughest; having been overlooked for employment opportunities, seen as less capable than leaner individuals. Going out in general, walking with my wife and family, enjoying a day at the park… basic, simple social activities that I am missing out on as a friend, a husband, a father.

3. Why is it so important for you to lose weight? Please add any medical conditions here if applicable. Also use as much detail as possible. What propels me to want to lose weight… never having the energy necessary to fully participate in my own life; always being sore, my back, my hips, my knees. I have undergone not 1, but 2, surgeries for sleep apnea. I have developed both high cholesterol and triglycerides. What makes weight loss important to me… my children. Being physically able to take them swimming, hiking, bicycling; setting a healthy example for them as a father.

4. There are so many people struggling with how they feel about themselves due to their weight. How will you reach out to them and lend a helping hand once you have achieved success?

Having achieved success I will teach my children about healthy eating habits and weight management, hopefully sparing them the emotional and physical damage of adult obesity. I will gladly speak on the radio about my success, encouraging others not to give up, assuring them that success is possible. I would be willing to support and motivate anybody embarking on a weight loss journey of their own.

5. What are you willing to do in order to succeed?

In order to succeed, I am willing to do whatever it takes; change my eating habits, my exercise habits, my lifestyle. Whether it means getting up earlier or staying up late to attend boot camp, I will be there, putting in 100% of myself 100% of the time.

6. What are you not willing to do?

I am not willing to give up, not willing to settle for the way I am. I am not willing to fail.

7. How will you celebrate your results?

I will celebrate my success at the mountain top. I will join my wife and children on their hike to Look-Out Point. I will swim with my son to the island and camp on the beach. I will once again dance with my wife and not feel ashamed.

8. You will experience one or more times during your transformation that would be much easier if you quit. How can we be sure that you will not quit? By trying to assure us you will not quit is not a good enough answer here :)

I have not, nor ever will be, a quitter. I have reached the point in my life where I know that if it isn’t now than it will truly be never. If I do not get my weight under control, I fear that lifelong medical conditions will inevitably set in. I will not be here to walk my daughters down the aisle, to see my son grow into a man, to grow old with the woman I love. For me, for them, I will not give up, I will not give in to the misconception that quitting is the easy way out.

9. Is there anything else we should know that will help us determine if you would be a great choice to participate in this transformation contest?

What else is there to say about me… I have been the area wrestling coach for the last 6 years; I would use my newfound health, energy and knowledge to further assist these young people in their athletic endeavors.

I have struggled with my weight my entire life. I have tried Weight Watchers, Atkins, South Beach Diet…you name the diet, I’m pretty sure I’ve tried it at least once. Going through school, especially high school was the worst. One girl in particular made life hell. She rode the same bus I did and she and her friends found it endlessly amusing to tease and taunt me. Sitting in back of me to pull my hair was a favorite activity. When I told someone about this and this girl was questioned her response was “She’s fat, what does it matter?” Emotionally I hit an all time low when I was 19. Someone I trusted and believed took that trust and abused it horribly. I went from thinking I was just fat to thinking and believing that I was fat and worthless. It’s been almost 23 years and I have put on a mask so the world will see an accomplished woman when inside I still feel lost and worthless. I want that to change. People seem to like me, they seem to find me worthwhile: I want to have that kind of confidence in myself.

It is important for me to lose weight and change my body because I do not want to end up with diabetes or high blood pressure like the rest of my family. I need to change the way I interact with food. I want to lessen the strain on my aching knees from carrying around so much weight. My doctor has told me my plantar’s fasciitis will get better if I take off some weight. I want to be able to walk without pain. I would like to believe if I were more active the depression that threatens to drag me under would ease up.>

4. There are so many people struggling with how they feel about themselves due to their weight. How will you reach out to them and lend a helping hand once you have achieved success?

I want to reach out and talk about my struggles and the events that led me to where I am right now. I’m tired of hiding and feeling like I was wrong and I’m somehow at fault. I don’t relish public speaking though I will do it if it is required, but I am willing to be a listening ear, an advocate, a support and use my life as a model to others about what can be accomplished with hard work

5. What are you willing to do in order to succeed?

I am willing to step outside my comfort zone and work harder than I think I can to achieve better health.

6. What are you not willing to do?

I am no longer willing to accept my excuses for why I can’t change my life. I’m the only person who can change my life.

7. How will you celebrate your results?

By being a healthier, stronger, more active person.

8. You will experience one or more times during your transformation that would be much easier if you quit. How can we be sure that you will not quit? By trying to assure us you will not quit is not a good enough answer here :)

I have survived 23 years thinking I am a worthless sack of crap. If I can carry on feeling that way about myself and feeling constantly afraid I know I have the strength and determination to work through those times it would be easier to just give up. Have I always worked through those times in the past? Absolutely not: I’m human, I make mistakes, but I KNOW this would change my life and I KNOW I have something valuable to add to this program and this experience and I’m finally not afraid to try.

9. Is there anything else we should know that will help us determine if you would be a great choice to participate in this transformation contest?

I don’t envy anyone this decision. I know there are an infinite number of reasons to want to be a part of this experience and honestly, I don’t know why you should pick me over someone else. I think I have a lot to offer the world and if I could develop some confidence I might actually be able to make the difference I was put on this earth to make. Thank you for considering me.
